There was a huge increase in audio calculation performance in the 2nd gen i7 CPUs that came out with the early 2011 MBPs - for comparison - my early 2011 MBP with 2.3Ghz 2nd gen i7 CPU was about equivalent to my old overclocked 4Ghz 1st gen I7 CPU in a high end (in its day) desktop PC - thats a hell of a jump considering slower memory in the laptop. What someone said above - new laptop + firewire adapter.Įven just upgrading your current laptop to a second hand 2011 or later MBP model would be a huge improvement.
